HKMPSGU was established on 7 August 2012.  Its Objectives are (according to the regulations):

1. To gather together all mediators and related employees in the Union.
2. To recognize and enhance the academic and professional standards of members and mediation profession, and strengthen the exchanges with local and overseas profession.
3. To advocate for fair and reasonable pay, work hours and other employment terms, and protect members rights in general.
4. To co-ordinate the relations between members and employers, members and members, members and other employees; and mediate any disputes arisen from the work relations.
5. To advocate for members’ and the profession’s rights in being recognized in negotiation with the employers.
6. To promote the development of the profession, to participate in social affairs of members and the profession.
7. To take care of training and development of the profession and promote academic exchange.
8. To organize cultural, leisure and sports activities.
9. To establish or invest in businesses which will enhance the benefits of the members and the Union.
10. To support and promote other unions which are legal organizations for the benefits of the profession.
11. To provide legal assistance when needed by members in employment issues.
